Lives of Meaning

Photo of Eddy

Kudos to Eddy

Eddy Morten was presented with the WIDHH 2009 Merit Award for his advocacy work to further the rights of the deafblind community, in particular, his recent victory in a lawsuit he brought forward successfully against Air Canada, who denied him the right to fly alone.  Eddy fought this case and won, on behalf of all individuals with disabilities such as deafblindness.  Despite a great deal of favourable press on the decision, and Eddy’s declared victory, Air Canada have chosen to appeal the decision.  He was honored to accept on behalf of his team who helped him in the initial case (interpreters and legal representative, and advisory council of the Human Rights commission).  With the case being appealed, Eddy will be facing more challenges,  in time, energy and resources, to secure a win that will benefit everyone.  We applaud Eddy for his victory and his ongoing advocacy work, and support him in all his future endeavours.

Viva Mexico - Jason enjoying the pool

This winter, Jason who lives in Kelowna and is jointly supported by Lifestyle Equity and DSS, got to experience the trip of a lifetime. Jason, his roommate Dustin, intervenor Kelly, and mom Bonnie all spent a week at a resort in the Mayan Riviera.  Jason has always loved water, and was able to fully experience  the sand, sun and beautiful ocean, as well as a great variety of delicious food at the all inclusive resort.  This was a long held dream come true for Jason and his family.
